On 25th January, 1915, the 2nd King’s Royal Rifle Corps battalion of 2 Brigade, 1st Division marched to Annequin via Beuvry and Cambrai. Here they reported to the GOC of the 1st Brigade and, along with the 1st battalion of the Black Watch, were ordered to occupy a line of trenches at Cuinchy, running from the ‘single brick stack to the La Bassée road which were under threat by the enemy. This was achieved and 2nd King’s Royal Rifle Corps remained in these forward positions until relieved on 27th January, the same day that Benjamin Bloxham was killed, probably by shell fire. |
